Flexitouch Plus System
Lymphedema, or lymphatic obstruction, is a chronic condition where excess lymph fluid collects in tissue and causes swelling, often in the extremities or limbs. Up to 20 million Americans suffer from the disease, many after receiving surgery or radiation treatment for cancer. Although lymphedema cannot be cured, with the right treatment, it can be managed and controlled.
Since being diagnosed with lymphedema, Marc has had to rely on lengthy self-massage techniques to find at-home relief. Now thanks the state-of-the-art Flexitouch Plus System from Tactile Medical, Marc can hope to significantly reduce the swelling in his left foot, which has set back his rehab from his hip replacement operation last fall. With a reduction in swelling, Marc will be better able to focus on regaining sensation, mobility and strength in his foot, which will allow him to get back to dancing.
The Flexitouch Plus System consists of a touch control panel, a series of pneumatic compression tubes, and a garment sleeve that straps onto the affected limb. The treatment works by sequentially inflating and deflating the pneumatic chambers within the garment sleeve to create a gentle, wave-like motion that directs lymph fluid from the impaired area toward healthy regions of the body. The fluid is then naturally absorbed and processed by the body.
